Issue Configuring Windows SharePoint Services Adapter Web Service

Am installing the web service for the BizTalk SharePoint adapter and have hit a wall with this error:

TITLE: Microsoft BizTalk Server Configuration Wizard

You are attempting to install Windows SharePoint Services Adapter Web Service on a virtual
server that has not been configured with Windows SharePoint Services. Refer to the documentation
for instructions on extending a virtual server. (CWssAdaCfg)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

There is a lot on the internet about extending the SharePoint services to the site you’re trying to use but none of this helped and then I found this post by John W Powell. The problem as described by John was the URL being passed to utility by the configuration tool. He describes how you capture the URL and execute the utility directly but when I ran it a slightly different error:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2010>Microsoft.BizTalk.KwTpm.Sts OmInterop3.exe http://insidetraining Specified URL is not extended. Details: This operation can be performed only on a computer that is joined to a server farm by users who have permissions in SQL Server to read from the configuration database. To connect this server to the server farm, use the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard, located on the Star t menu in Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products.

The key piece being “users who have permissions in SQL Server to read the configuration database”. That error isn’t what’s shown when the configuration tool gets the exception. Turns out I don’t have database access to the SP configuration database WHO KNEW!
